My former business partner Joel and I were at an opening.  It was 1993 or so.

It was the Tombs of Egypt or the Splendors of China or something like that.

Fancy.  Suits and everything.

At the Portland Art Museum.

We ran into some old friends of my family, Derek and Lydia, from South Africa.

Derek says, 'So Scott, what are you up to these days?'

I reply, 'Oh, Joel and I are starting a company.'

Derek says, interested, 'Oh really, what is it?'

Joel, feeling a little bit like James Bond, and always paranoid about having his secrets stolen, replies, 'I could tell you, but I'd have to kill you.'

Derek, without losing a beat, looks at Lydia, and says, 'Tell her.'
